More than 100 families in Ndabibi, Naivasha, were left homeless and forced to spend the night in the cold after flash floods swept through their homes, schools, and shopping centers on Monday night.

The floods were triggered by heavy rainfall in the nearby Eburru Forest, which sent torrents of water cascading down into surrounding villages. The sudden deluge left a trail of destruction in its wake, washing away property, submerging farmland, and rendering key roads impassable.

According to former area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Gathariki Kamanu, the flash floods caught residents by surprise, affecting over 100 households.

He attributed the situation to clogged and poorly maintained waterways, warning that the situation could deteriorate further if immediate action is not taken.

“There are more than 2,000 school-going children and flower farm workers who are now unable to access schools and their workplaces due to flooded and damaged roads,” Kamanu said.

He also confirmed that properties belonging to high-profile individuals, including a nearby farm owned by President William Ruto, had not been spared. Several schools and flower farms in the area have reported extensive damage.

Residents are now calling on both the national and Nakuru County governments to intervene. Salim Narokora, a local farmer, described the ordeal as devastating, revealing that livestock and harvested crops were swept away by the raging waters. “Very little was salvaged. We are in urgent need of help,” he lamented.

Local cleric Joseph Esokon expressed fears of further destruction as rains continue to batter the Eburru hills. “We’re living in fear. What happened in Mai Mahiu could happen here if the waterways aren’t cleared,” he said, referencing recent deadly floods in the neighboring region.

Authorities are yet to confirm any casualties, but with forecasts predicting continued rainfall, residents remain on high alert.

Emergency response teams are being urged to move quickly to assess damage, assist displaced families, and mitigate the risk of further flooding.
