Five students to be arraigned over Kerugoya Girls dormitory fire

Kerugoya Girls High School.
Speaking on Monday, criminal investigation officer Bernard Korir said seven girls were initially arrested on Sunday evening after the incident and seven more on Monday.
Korir further stated that after investigations, the students disclosed to detectives how they orchestrated the incident, including purchasing the petrol used to light up the fire.
“We narrowed the number to five suspects who are currently being held at Kerugoya Police Station,” Korir said.
The five students are expected to be arraigned at Kerugoya Law Courts on Tuesday, where they will be charged with arson.
Meanwhile, the school was on Monday closed indefinitely following what Kirinyaga Central Deputy County Commissioner Daniel Ndege said was a board of management meeting.
Ndege added that 96 out of 160 students who reside in the dormitory were affected by the fire.
