Police officer dead, another injured as drunk colleague opens fire at Gigiri bar

A drunk officer on Sunday night opened fire at the Gigiri police canteen in Nairobi’s Westlands area, killing a colleague and injuring another.

Constable Limo Nahason, believed to be a protection officer attached to Parliament, shot Constable Eric Munga of Runda police station in the chest and Corporal Philip Kae, attached to the Judiciary, in the lower abdomen at the canteen’s bar.

A report filed at Gigiri police station a few minutes to midnight indicates that the two were rushed to the Aga Khan University Hospital, where Munga was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Kae was meanwhile admitted at the facility, and police said he was “in stable condition”.

“A pistol make Jericho serial number 44332745 with 14 rounds of 9mm was recovered from the suspect and is being held as exhibit pending ballistic analysis,” the police report added.

Officers said they also recovered a spent cartridge and a Parliament access card from the killer cop’s wallet after arresting him.

Munga’s body is at the Kenyatta University Funeral Home, awaiting post-mortem.
