Fatuma Dullo loses out on PSC slot as Azimio replaces her with Senator Okong'o Omogeni
Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo has lost out on being a
commissioner in the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).
Dullo who is currently the minority whip in the Senate has
been accused of inserting her name in the list without consulting the coalition
leadership.
Senate Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo moved the amendment motion
that was unanimously approved by the Senate despite the motion having been
passed in the National Assembly.
"You realise this amendment is coming because I wrote a
letter to your counterpart, the speaker of the NA after due consultations with
members of the minority side,”
Madzayo said.
The amendment exposes serious divisions in the Azimio
coalition especially after Madzayo admitted to having written a letter to the Speaker to
disregard the nomination of Dullo, a letter that was apparently ignored.
"In all the letters that come from the minority, I am
the authority. Unfortunately, this was not to be so and another letter was
written which led to that appointment (of Dullo)" he said.
The amendment motion was seconded by Kitui Senator and
Deputy Minority leader Enoch Wambua who insisted that Madzayo is the authority
on the minority side and his word should carry the day.
"The substitution of the name of our friend Fatuma
Dullo with the name of senior counsel Okong'o Omogeni has attracted a very
bipartisan approach," he said.
The two leading coalitions Kenya Kwanza and Azimio quickly
closed ranks and supported the exclusion of Dullo, replacing her with Okongo
Omugeni.
The amended list now has John Kinyua and Joyce Korir from
Kenya Kwanza and Okong’o
Omogeni from Azimio, in the Senate, while Faith Gitau and Mohammed Ali will
represent Kenya Kwanza in the National Assembly while Mishi Mboko and Patrick Makau will
represent Azimio coalition.
The motion will now be forwarded back to the National
Assembly for debate and concurrence before the legislators take their position
as commissioners.
