Fathers’ Day: First Lady Rachael pens tribute to husband 'Bill' Ruto
As
the world marked Father’s Day on Sunday, 18th June, First Lady Racheal Ruto
celebrated the day by appreciating her spouse, President William Ruto for being
a responsible father and good teacher to their children.
In a
message posted on her Twitter account, the First Lady likened Ruto’s mode of
instilling values in the children to that of her own father.
“I
have many fond memories of my father. But what has stayed with me through the
years are the moments spent polishing his shoes. My father would make me polish
his shoes in front of a mirror. And, whenever I thought I had achieved the
perfect lustre, he would make me brush some more. My young hands would grow
tired until I got the perfect shine,” she said.
Ms
Ruto said her husband, whom she referred to by her go-to name in such
celebratory notes – Bill – has been doing the same with their children.
“Maybe it's every father's thing. To teach without telling. Today, as we mark this Fathers' Day, I celebrate all the fathers who teach their children that, in everything they do, they must endeavour to "get the sheen right!",” she added.
On
the same note, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja also wished President Ruto a happy
Fathers’ Day during a church service in Kakamega.
The
Nairobi boss praised the president as a responsible leader and father to the
people of Kenya.
“Mr
President, you are our father, Happy Fathers’ Day, as the father of the nation,
and happy Fathers’ Day to all the fathers here. And have remembered Matthew
7:9, which of you fathers do your child ask for bread and you give them a stone
and does your child ask you for fish and you give them snake,” said Sakaja.
President Ruto married Rachel Ruto in 1991 and they
are now raising seven children.
