Family of two killed over chicken theft claims wants perpetrators charged
A family of two men lynched by mob over chicken theft claims
in Budaywa Sub-location, Vihiga County is seeking justice, calling for the
perpetrators to be apprehended.
The family maintains that their kins were forced out of
their houses in the night before being lynched in the Kakamega County’s
Ikolomani area.
Wilson Kivuya recalls that what seemed to be a neighbours
knock on the door turned out to be a horrifying scene that left his son Victor
Mazigulu dead. Three people who picked him on Saturday night accused the
deceased of stealing chicken.
"When I opened the door I was frightened to see my
brother's son's hands tied from behind and the three men with him asking for my
son who escaped from the house out of fear only for one of the three night
visitors to pursue and arrest him. The two were dragged using motorbikes before
being killed at Ikolomani," Kivuya explained.
Kivuya's brother Edgar Ajega wants the perpetrators charged
for taking law in their hands despite not finding them with the said stolen
chicken at the time of the murder. His son Mike Kalogoni was killed in the incident.
According to the family, killers of the two men are known
and should be excommunicated from the society.
"Our customs prohibit sharing water shops with people
who kill one's relatives. Elders must take up this issue to avoid future harm,"
Gilbert Isindu said while Javan Milembe pleaded with authorities to ensure the
culprits are brought to book.
