Family of missing Nairobi County IT Intern urges gov’t intervention
The family of 19-year-old Elvis Munene is pleading with the government to help find their son after he went missing on January 29, under mysterious circumstances.
According to investigators, the Nairobi County IT
intern's phone was last detected near the Mwalimu Co-Operative building on
January 28, 2025, which conflicts with the family's account that they spoke to
him and sent him money on January 29.
“He called me around 4:20 pm, requesting that I
send him transport fare. I sent the cash five minutes later but when I got home
around 8pm, my son hadn’t arrived,” Marion Karambu, Munene’s mother, told
Citizen TV.
“Investigators at Kikuyu Police Station tried
tracking him. They say that his phone was switched off on the 28th
but I sent him money on the 29th.”
More questions have also arisen as to how Munene
went to work without complete documents, with all his identification left in
his room at home. An attendance logbook at City Hall confirmed that Munene
reported to work on January 29 at 8:05 AM but never returned home.
“We searched his room and discovered his national,
school and City Hall IDs. He does not have any legal documents on him so we are
appealing to the government to bring him back home, James Karanja, Munene’s
mother, said.
While the family remains hopeful for Munene’s
safe return, the task now lies with investigators to find him and uncover the
reasons behind his disappearance.
