'Fake!' NPSC dismisses viral police recruitment advert
The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has dismissed an
advertisement going round on social media of a purported recruitment exercise
for police constables.
NPSC Chairperson Eliud Kinuthia, in a statement on Thursday, termed
the recruitment notice as fake, cautioning the public against being duped.
He noted that the document, which purported to originate from Inspector
General of Police Douglas Kanja, was a counterfeit since the
recruitment exercise can only be advertised through the commission.
“The National Police Service Commission has noted with concern
a fake advertisement circulating on social media purporting to advertise and
announce the recruitment of police constables,” he stated.
“We wish to categorically state that the mandate to recruit
and appoint persons to serve in the National Police Service rests solely with
the Commission, as provided under Article 246(3)(a) of the Constitution of
Kenya. Any communication regarding police recruitment can only originate from
the Commission.”
Mr Kinuthia added: “We urge members of the public to exercise
vigilance and refrain from engaging with fraudulent advertisements, which are
designed to mislead and exploit selecting individuals.”
The fake advertisement sought to recruit 10,000 police constables
and had claimed that the process
would commence on Monday, February 3, 2025, from 8am to 5pm in different constituency-based
recruitment centers countrywide.
