The Kenya Meteorological Department says that rainfall across most parts
of the country will gradually reduce in intensity and coverage beginning
Thursday.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Met noted that while moderate to
heavy rainfall had been experienced in several regions over the past few days,
a decline is anticipated heading into the second half of the month.
However, some areas such as Lake Victoria Basin, Highlands West and East
of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley itself, isolated parts of the Southeastern
lowlands, especially those neighbouring Nairobi County, and the Coastal region
are likely to continue receiving rainfall with intermittent breaks.
“May marks the end of the ‘Long Rains’ season across much of the
country, except for the Coastal region and Western Kenya, where rainfall
typically extends into June. May also marks the peak of the March to May
rainfall season over the Coastal region,” noted the weatherman.
“Rainfall currently being experienced is expected to gradually reduce in
intensity and coverage from tomorrow, 15 May 2025.”
The weatherman revealed that the North East, North West, and much of the
South Eastern lowlands would remain generally dry, with only a few places in
the North West expected to receive occasional showers.
The Met department further forecasted that rainfall will continue in the
Lake Victoria Basin, Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, and
the Coastal region, noting that some may spill occasionally into Central Kenya,
particularly areas bordering the West.
“Cool and cloudy conditions with occasional light rains are expected
over the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, some parts of
the Southeastern lowlands, and the high ground areas of Marsabit County as the
cold season gradually sets in,” read the statement.
