Ex-Samburu governor Lenolkulal challenges conviction in graft case
Lenolkul who was last week granted bond pending the appeal argues that the trail magistrate erred in law in convicting and sentencing him to 8 years in jail after he was found guilty in the Ksh.83 million graft case.
In the court documents, the ex-governor now wants the High Court to set aside the lower court’s decision.
On August 29, 2024, Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki fined Lenolkulal Ksh.85 million after he was found guilty of corruptly receiving public funds.
Lenolkulal and 10 other co-accused persons were convicted of various counts including abuse of office, conflict of interest and unlawful acquisition of public property.
His former proxy, Hesbon Ndathi was also fined Ksh. 83 million or to serve 8 years in prison.
On August 30, Kibra High Court in Kibera High Court judge Hesbon Jack Wachira Ndathi granted bail to the former Samburu Governor pending the hearing of their appeal against a conviction in a corruption case.
The ruling was delivered on Friday by Justice Kavedza, who certified the application as urgent.
