The daughter of a former Kenyan minister has
been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide in Washington, United States,
for causing the deaths of two individuals while driving on the opposite side of
the road.
Candy Soita was arrested on Sunday following
the incident that occurred on westbound SR 512 near Canyon Road East
around 2:15 am, U.S. time.
Reports indicate that Soita, who was carrying
her one-year-old daughter in her car, was driving in the wrong direction on the
road when her vehicle collided with another carrying three American soldiers,
two of whom lost their lives in the collision.
The deceased soldiers have since been
identified as Spc. Charles T. Fairbairn, 29, and Spc. Wendell T. Cerio, 22.
Soita and her child escaped with minor
injuries while the surviving soldier is recuperating at a local hospital.
According to Seattle's King5 News platform,
when Washington State Patrol (WSP) troopers arrived at the scene they ferried
Soita and her daughter to a hospital for treatment.
The troopers however detected the scent of
alcohol on Soita's breath, prompting them to conduct a test to determine her
level of intoxication.
Her breath test registered as .097
approximately four hours after the collision.
According to Forbes, the legal limit is
.08% across the United States. If your Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) is
above this level, you are presumed intoxicated in every state.
