Former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha Wafula can now breathe a sigh of relief after President William Ruto seemingly plucked her from perceived political obscurity, bringing her back into the fold with the nomination to a new role.
Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, in a circular released on
Thursday, noted that Nakhumicha has been nominated as the new Kenyan Permanent
Representative to the UN Habitat in Nairobi.
The former Health CS lost her position when President Ruto dissolved his Cabinet on July 11, 2024 following protracted Gen Z-led
anti-government protests.
She was however not absorbed back when the President nominated a new Cabinet over a week later, in which he retained a few faces from the one
that he had disbanded.
Nakhumicha then retreated back to the village and, according
to her social media updates, resorted to a quiet life as a farmer.
In the new changes by President Ruto announced by Koskei,
Eng. Peter Tum was also stripped of his title as Sports Principal Secretary and
has now been nominated as Kenya’s Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of
Congo (DRC).
Trade PS Alfred Ombudo K’Ombudo has, on his part, been
nominated as the Deputy Head of Mission in Belgium while his East African Community
(EAC) counterpart Abdi Dubat Fidhow was picked as Consul-General in Arusha, Tanzania.
Economic
Planning PS James Buyekane Muhati is poised to take over the role of Consul-General
in Guangzhou, China, whereas his Maritime Affairs counterpart Geoffrey Eyanae
Kaituko heads to Rome, Italy, as Deputy Head of Mission.
