Former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati on Friday honoured
summons by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over the alleged
theft of public funds in the devolved unit during his tenure.
The former Governor is accused of awarding road construction
tenders worth Ksh.70 million to companies linked to him and his five brothers
during the financial years 2017/18 and 2021/22.
Wangamati appeared before investigators at EACC's Regional
Offices in Bungoma where he recorded a statement.
"The outcome of the investigation will inform appropriate
action, which may include criminal prosecution of any persons found culpable
and recovery of lost public funds," the commission said.
The ex-Governor is under investigation alongside Webuye West
Member of Parliament Daniel Wanyama, who recorded his statement at EACC
headquarters in Nairobi on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
