Equal number of youths, at least 2 Gen Zs: KUSO tells Ruto on forming new Cabinet

The Kenya University Students Organization (KUSO) has urged President William Ruto to consider the demands of Kenyans while searching for new members of his new Cabinet.

KUSO president Anthony Manyara said that Ruto must comply with the need to have equal representation in his new cabinet including the youth and Gen Zs.

He added that the CSs must prove competence in their respective fields and must have clean criminal records.

"If we have 6 men then we expect to have 6 as the youth who are under 35. We expect that Gen Zs should also be represented in that Cabinet with at least 2 CSs," he said.

"The leaders should be able to woo the trust of young people by creating more job opportunities."

Manyara further emphasized that the CS who will be chosen to head the education docket must be well apprised with how the Kenyan education sector functions to avoid the mishaps seen by ex-CS Ezekiel Machogu.

They want the new CS to scrap off the new university funding model as the first order of business.

"The education sector has been crippled for long time and our expectation is that the government must never bring onboard a CS like Machogu anymore. We want someone who can handle the education sector with some knowledge," he said.

"The CS should be experienced with enough knowledge and understands what happens in the education sector."

President Ruto fired all Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney General on July 11 save for the offices of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

The calls for the Cabinet dismissal rose during the anti-government protests that mounted pressure on Ruto's government to withdraw the tax-burdening Finance Bill 2024.

Principal Secretaries (PS) will temporarily oversee daily government operations for various ministerial dockets.
