Energy Cabinet Secretary nominee Opiyo Wandayi's
net worth currently stands at Ksh.530 million.
The Ugunja MP, and immediate former National
Assembly Minority Leader, made the revelation on Saturday when he appeared
before the Committee on Appointments for vetting.
Wandayi says that his net worth comprises
land, cash, real estate, and farms, among other assets.
"My net worth is about Ksh.530 million. It
is largely made of cash, real estate developments, farms in Siaya and Narok and
plots in Kitengela, Migori, Suna East," he said.
"I also own residential houses in Migori
and Nairobi on Kangundo Road."
Wandayi is one of four Orange Democratic
Movement (ODM) leaders who were on July 24 nominated to take up ministerial
positions in President William Ruto's new Cabinet.
The others are; nominated MP John Mbadi (Treasury),
former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho (Mining and Blue Economy) and former
Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives and MSMEs).
By Saturday, only Wandayi and Mbadi had
appeared before the committee for vetting pending Parliamentary approval.
The final day of the vetting on Sunday will see Joho,
Oparanya, Alfred Mutua (Labour), Justin Muturi (Public Service) and Stella Lang’at
(Gender) appear before the Parliamentary committee.
