Energy CS Davis Chirchir heckled in Bomet

Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir was on Sunday heckled while giving his remarks during a church service attended by President William Ruto in Sotik town, Bomet County.

Footage from the event shows Chirchir assuming the stage to shouting from the congregation.

He nonetheless went ahead to give a 42-second speech delivered entirely in Kalenjin, thanking President Ruto for visiting Bomet and giving him the energy docket, before he left the stage.

President Ruto was flanked by CSs Chirchir, Ezekiel Machogu (Education) and Florence Bore (Labour), among other government officials.

Although it did not touch on matters of energy, Chirchir’s speech comes as Kenyans graple with high fuel costs despite a 16 per cent drop in international prices.

A review released by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) last week maintained the price of super petrol in the country at Ksh.217 for the next month.

The price of diesel and kerosene has been slightly reduced by Ksh.2 per litre to retail at Ksh.203.47 and Ksh.203.06 respectively in Nairobi.

EPRA attributed the cost to the rising landed cost of diesel and super petrol.
