Embu: Three students charged for burning down dormitory

Three students from St. Paul's Kevote High School in Embu, Kirinyaga County were on Thursday charged with arson after allegedly burning down a Ksh.4 million dormitory within the institution.

The trio is said to have colluded with others to carry out the offence on October 3, 2023.

Two of the students, who appeared before Embu High Court Principal Magistrate Robert Mundia, pleaded guilty to the charges while the remaining schoolboy denied the charges maintaining his innocence.

The students who denied the charges were released on a Ksh.100,000 bond with surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Ksh.50,000.

The Prosecution asked the court that the facts be deferred and did not oppose bond terms.

Mundia directed that the pair await for facts mentioning as the court appoints a pro-bono counsel for the third accused.

She similarly ordered that the file be placed under the court's administration with the case fixed for October 18, 2023

The three are currently being remanded at Runyenjes Police Station.
