Embu county partners with HOPE international to provide free surgeries to over 100 patients

Embu County has joined forces with  HOPE International, a US-based NGO, to offer complimentary surgeries to more than 100 individuals residing in Embu.

The surgical interventions, commencing on February 19th, aim to assist patients grappling with chronic illnesses. These services will be available at Embu Level Five Hospital until February 24, 2024.

Jamal Runyenje, the County Executive Committee Member for Health (CECM), welcomed the arrival of experts and medical personnel from I HOPE International to Embu for this initiative.

Runyenje emphasized that the primary goal is to support underprivileged members of society who are battling various chronic conditions, particularly those hindered by financial constraints.

"This endeavor is geared towards providing essential medical assistance to those unable to afford urgent healthcare," stated Jamal.

He expressed confidence that the collaborative efforts between County doctors and US medical professionals will deliver vital treatments to individuals facing financial hardships.

"We are prepared for significant surgical procedures starting on Monday. Patients suffering from various ailments will undergo operations performed by our local doctors alongside the visiting US team, who will be here for the next week," Jamal affirmed.

Currently, 22 specialist doctors and 22 nurses from I HOPE International are stationed in Embu, working in conjunction with local healthcare providers during the camp.

Amy Pajnik, CEO of I HOPE International, described the free medical camp as a philanthropic endeavor aimed at giving back to society.

Pajnik expressed determination to conduct as many surgeries as possible to alleviate the suffering of patients who have endured prolonged waits.

"It's a privilege to return to Kenya and contribute to the community. We urge residents to take advantage of this opportunity," remarked Pajnik.

Norma Rae, Medical Director of I HOPE International, emphasized that everyone is welcome at the medical camp, underscoring that specialists will diagnose and explain conditions to patients.

Rae assured Embu residents that the team of specialists can address various ailments and encouraged them to utilize the free medical services to address their health concerns promptly.
