Eldoret woman's murder suspects face extended detention

Two men suspected of having committed the murder of an Eldoret woman Rael Cherop Biwott, will be detained for 11 more days.

Eldoret Principal Magistrate Onkoba Mogire granted the Directorate of Criminal Investigation's request to be given more days to complete investigations.

Homicide detectives, jointly with their Kapseret counterparts, have so far established that the deceased left her workplace at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, at around 7pm on June 22, where she was working as a Senior Accounts Assistant.

Rael was in the company of her husband Francis Mwangi Ndirangu; the prime suspect in her murder.

Ndirangu claimed that Biwott disappeared after they had breakfast together on June 23. However, their children and a co-accused provided testimonies contradicting this statement.

Later, Ndirangu changed his story, stating that they departed from his wife's workplace in a matatu, despite CCTV footage showing them leaving in a private vehicle rented by Ndirangu.

The dismembered body parts of the deceased were later discovered at various places across Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties between June 24 and 27.

An autopsy conducted on the deceased, on July 7, in the presence of her husband and two advocates indicated that the deceased had suffered neck injuries and blunt force trauma to the head.

Ndirangu and his co-accused were later arraigned on July 8.
