IEBC postpones voting in Wajir's Eldas Constituency to Wednesday

IEBC Commissioner Francis Wanderi addresses journalists at the Bomas of Kenya on August 9, 2022.

Residents of Eldas Constituency in Wajir County will have to wait a few more hours to cast their votes in this year's General Election.

This is according to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Francis Wanderi who says that the exercise has been postponed to Wednesday, August 10, owing to cases of insecurity in the area.

Speaking at the Bomas of Kenya on Tuesday, Wanderi noted that polling stations in the area will open to the public at 6 am on Wednesday and close once all residents cast their votes.

"Elections in Eldas constituency, Wajir County have been adjourned due to security reasons and voting shall commence tomorrow at 6 am," said Wanderi.

The IEBC commissioner, while urging residents to use the electoral commission's toll-free line to report cases of electoral malpractice, likewise dispelled fears that the delayed results will affect the tallying of presidential results.

"It will not affect our timelines in terms of presidential results announcement because if it is done tomorrow, by the end of the day, they will be able to tally and transmit the results and we shall continue to count them and then after the results are collated at the constituency they will be airlifted to Bomas of Kenya," he said.
