A dark cloud hangs over Arimi village in Elburgon, following a devastating accident that claimed 12 lives, including eight from the community.

Families are still reeling from the shock two days after losing their loved ones. Citizen TV spoke to some of the victims who are now looking for a footing after the incident that literally disrupted some lives.

Eight among those who perished are from the same village, Arimi in Elburgon. Their families never expected that at a time like this they would be planning to bury their loved ones.

Charles Mwaura is among those mourning. He lost his 16-year-old son, Nickson Mbano, a Form Three student at Elburgon DEB Secondary School. Holding his son's photograph, he struggles to find words...

“Niliskia kijana wangu alikuwa ametoka shule kuja nyumbani kutafuta karo, sikujua kwamba alikuwa katika gari hiyo. Nimebaki na uchungu sana...” Mwaura stated.

“Tunataka serikali itusaidie. Katika ajali sehemu hiyo ya Arimi watu wengi wameangamia," Mburu, Nickson's uncle, stated.

A kilometer away, we find Henry Waweru. Grief overwhelms him; his wife, Jecinter Wambui, was among the deceased.

Ironically, Waweru was part of the rescue team, unaware that his wife was among the victims.

“Kusema ukweli bado nimeshtuka, sijajua kama mke wangu alikuwa hapo mpaka wakati tulikuwa tukiwaokoa...” Waweru noted.

Wambui was returning from a colleague's funeral, accompanied by three others, when tragedy struck. In the same village, Peter Kamau is at a loss after losing his wife that day.

He now faces the challenge of caring for their six-month-old child alone. The shock still evident, he was unable to utter a word.

As funeral arrangements proceed, many families are struggling to cope with the burden of organizing them.
