Eight
remandees who were supposed to appear in court on Thursday escaped from Koru police
station in Muhoroni, Kisumu County on Wednesday
evening and are at large.
A
police source at the station told Citizen Digital that the detainees from
Kodiaga numbering 10 were brought to the station on Wednesday ahead of arraignment at the
Menara law courts.
However,
they made the daring escape when they were being escorted to the latrine after
they wrestled down a police officer.
“As PC
Kemei was opening the cell's door the other nine remandees pushed the door and PC
Kemei fell down due to the impact. As they found their way outside and ran in
different directions, PC Gachie became overwhelmed as he tried to scare them by
firing in the air,” read a police report.
Two
of them who were in handcuffs were however rearrested later.
A
search has been mounted for the missing eight.
