Eight families left homeless as fire guts down houses in Kirinyaga
According to residents, led by Ephantus Bundi, efforts to contain the fire were unsuccessful, and eight houses were consumed before firefighters from the Kirinyaga County Government arrived at the scene.
John Kiama, a firefighter from the county, confirmed that they received an emergency call and rushed to Kimunye. "The colonial village has sixteen houses, and by the time we arrived, eight had already been consumed by the fire. We managed to prevent the flames from spreading further," said Kiama.
Police from the Kimunye Police Post, along with the area chief, were present at the scene. They reported that the fire was caused by leaking gas. "Our neighbour went to the shop and left a gas cylinder that was leaking, which triggered the fire. Thankfully, no one was injured," said Peter Ndiga, a resident.
The affected families are now appealing for help, as they have lost their homes, bedding, and food supplies. They are urging well-wishers to support them during this difficult time.
