Education CS Machogu says Gov’t to release Ksh.28B to schools this week
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu
says the government will disburse Ksh.28 billion to support secondary schools
in the country by the end of this week.
Speaking during an inspection tour of Siaya County
on Tuesday, CS Machogu reiterated the government’s commitment to funding
education at all levels.
He urged parents to take advantage of the new
funding model for higher education, where the government will offer
scholarships to the less fortunate up to 70 per cent of tuition fees.
CS Machogu also hinted that the ministry will
re-introduce ranking of schools based on the number of trees planted to mitigate
effects of climate change.
“The amount of money that government is
releasing this week in junior secondary and also in senior secondary is to a
total of Ksh.28 billion,” he said.
“We have said principals of schools, one of
the areas which is going to appear in your performance contracting is tree
nursery and planting of schools and we are going to do ranking the same way we
used to do ranking in performance in matters academics...we are going to do
ranking and we are going to have competition because in education institutions
we have two resources; the first thing we have is land and the other thing we
have is human resource...hapo ndio tunataka mashindano.”
ICT CS Eliud Owalo, on his part, echoed
President William Ruto’s declaration of offering employment in the digital
space.
“We will go to each and every ward in this
country and put up a digital hub... we want our brothers and sisters who are at
home to be trained in computers and we will get each and every one of them jobs
right there where they are in the villages,” he said.
