Eastleigh murders suspect to be detained for 21 days amid ongoing probe

Hashim Dagane Muhumed, the primary suspect in the murders of three women in Eastleigh, will be held in police custody for 21 days while investigations continue.

The suspect appeared before the Makadara Law Courts, where detectives requested that his detention be extended until the conclusion of their investigation.

According to court documents, detectives argued that Dagane poses a flight risk if released, pointing out that he had already relocated after committing the crimes.

They also emphasised the need for more time to investigate the three murders, which took place in different locations.

Dagane is currently held at Ruaka Police Station.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested him on Sunday after a Criminal Research and Investigations Bureau investigation that led to his capture at a hideout in Kamukunji, Nairobi.

Dagane evaded authorities for twelve days after being linked to the brutal murders of Amina Abidarashid, Nusayba Abdi, and Warris Daud, whose bodies were discovered in various locations in Nairobi and Machakos.

On Saturday, CCTV footage captured him inside a building in Eastleigh, prompting detectives to step up their search.

A manhunt was launched, with investigators tracking Dagane's movements through forensic evidence.

Despite his efforts to mislead authorities by using multiple phone numbers, he was ultimately apprehended on Sunday in Kamukunji.

After being identified, Dagane underwent a brief questioning session at the Kamukunji Police Station before being transferred to DCI headquarters for further interrogation by homicide detectives.

During the investigation, authorities found that Dagane possessed several fake documents, including a fraudulent Kenyan ID.

It has been established that he previously served as a police officer in a neighboring country before relocating to Kenya, where he worked as a driver for various schools in Eastleigh.

Additionally, allegations have surfaced that Dagane was previously imprisoned for a murder involving a family member.

The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the motive behind the murders and whether Dagane acted alone or with accomplices.

Another suspect is currently in custody, reportedly cooperating with detectives in their inquiries.

As the case unfolds, the community remains on high alert, seeking justice for the victims and answers about the circumstances surrounding these tragic events.
