EACC kicks off probe into Matiang'i's wealth accumulated over last 10 years
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i is under investigation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) which is now mounting a scrutiny on his wealth.
In a letter addressed to Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei dated Monday, February 27, the commission wants to be granted access to the wealth declaration forms filed by the former powerful minister during his 10-year tenure in Cabinet.
“The Commission is carrying out investigations involving Dr Fred Matiang’i… Pursuant to Section 30(1)(4)(b) of the Public Officers Ethics Act, the commission wishes to request Certified Copies of Declaration of Income, Assets and Liabilities forms for the years 2012 to 2022, including the initial and final declarations,” reads the letter filed by EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak.
Mbarak said that two officers would be sent to Head of Public Service Felix Koskei to collect the aforementioned documents.
The move by EACC comes
barely a week after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) summoned
the embattled former CS over the alleged police raid at
his house three weeks ago.
The summoning was preceded by a similar summon
to Matiang’i’s lawyer Danstan Omari over the same offence
of publishing false information regarding the said raid.
The High Court however extended orders stopping the police from harassing or
arresting Matiang’i and subsequently barred the DCI from commencing any criminal
investigations against the advocate, arresting or questioning him.
