EACC grills Busia County bosses over irregular employment
The Ethics and
Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned 39 directors and deputy directors
in various departments of the Busia County Government to appear before it
from Monday over employment irregularities.
In a letter dated October
30 seen by Citizen Digital, the directors have been asked to appear before EACC
officers in Bungoma in person to shed light on how they were employed.
This follows
allegations of nepotism and corruption during their employment early this year.
“The commission
pursuant to its constitutional and statutory mandate as set out under Article
252 (1) (a) (d) of the Constitution, Section 11 of the EACC Act 2011 and
Section 4 (2) and 42 (10) of the Leadership and Integrity Act 2012, is carrying
out investigations on allegations of irregular recruitment of Directors and
Deputy Directors by the County Service Board of Busia,” reads part of the
letter addressed to the county secretary.
It adds: “To
facilitate the investigations, kindly inform below-listed officers to kindly
avail themselves for interviews and statement recordings at our offices located
at Daima Plaza 2nd floor Bungoma town as per the schedule
below.”
The first bunch of
directors were required to appear before the commission on Monday from 9 a.m.,
with the last on November 20.
