EACC feted for excellence in financial management and reporting
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission
(EACC) has been feted for outstanding financial management and reporting, which
culminated in an unqualified audit opinion by the Office of the Auditor General
in the 2023/24 financial year.
The award ceremony was held at Safari Park
Hotel in Nairobi on Friday, December 6.
The Financial Reporting Award (FiRe Award) is
a joint initiative of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya
(ICPAK), Capital Markets Authority (CMA), Nairobi Security Exchange (NSE) and
the Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (PSASB), who are cumulatively
referred to as promoters of the award.
Now in its 22nd year, the FiRe Award is
designed to promote excellence in financial management and corporate reporting
and is given to institutions that demonstrate integrity, transparency, and
accountability in their financial operations.
The Certificate of Recognition for EACC was
received by the Commission's Director of Finance and Planning CPA Joel Mukumu,
representing CEO Twalib Mbarak.
Reacting to the award, CPA Mukumu
attributed the Commission’s recognition to its strong financial controls and staff
integrity, which he said have consistently enabled the Commission to receive a
favourable audit opinion.
The Director reiterated that EACC expects accounting
officers of all public institutions to discharge their responsibility of
ensuring strict adherence to the prevailing public finance management laws and
regulations to prevent theft of public funds under their care and control.
“The Commission recognises its enormous
responsibility in the protection of public funds and will continue to lead by
example in the maintenance of strong internal controls and compliance with the
established public financial management and reporting frameworks,” Mukumu said.
