EACC dismisses lawyer Jack Bigambo’s witness tampering claims in stamp forgery case
The Ethics
and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has dismissed city lawyer Jack Bigambo’s accusations
of bribery by the anti-graft agency in a case where he is accused of forging an
EACC stamp and using it in court documents to secure court orders against EACC.
Bigambo,
who was arrested and charged on January 10 for allegedly forging the official stamp
and signature of a senior EACC official, had written to the commission’s
Chairperson and CEO accusing the anti-graft agency of bribing and tampering with
defence witnesses.
EACC is pursuing over Ksh.185 million it believes was fraudulently
acquired from the Turkana County Government.
Bigambo
is representing a proxy company that was allegedly used by a Turkana County
Government official and his family members to siphon Ksh.185 million in
payments for goods never supplied.
But
the EACC has dismissed the allegations against it as common reactions from
jittery corruption suspects facing investigations and court proceedings.
The
anti-graft agency has urged the lawyer and his client to focus on defending the
matter pending in court and raising any issues of concern before the judge.
According
to EACC, the move is an unconscionable diversionary tactic calculated to tilt
or altogether defeat the course of justice by scuttling the criminal aspects of
the case currently under probe.
The
lawyer was arrested and arraigned on January 10 where he pleaded not guilty to
the charges. He was freed after posting a Ksh.100,000 cash bail.
