Thika Land Registrar Felix Mecha Nyakundi

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested Thika Land Registrar Felix Mecha Nyakundi over alleged involvement in graft.

According to the EACC, the registrar demanded and received Ksh.400,000 as “facilitation fees” from the complainant as a mandatory condition, for the complainant to receive a title deed that had been pending for the past two years.

Addressing Journalists in Nakuru on Friday, EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi said Nyakundi was arrested alongside his counterparts Boaz Sila Oseko and Samuel Murungi who allegedly helped him run his bribe collection scheme in the land administration matters.

The suspects who were arrested on Thursday evening were taken to the EACC Integrity Centre Police Station for interrogation.

Previously Milimani High Court Judge Justice Esther Maina granted EACC orders to freeze the registrar's multi-billion worth assets which included 17 high-end vehicles and 106 prime properties for 6 months. This follows suspicions of illegal acquirement of the property.

EACC was also allowed to hold and retain the sum of unexplained Ksh.4,260,000 in cash seized from the suspect.
