EACC arrests Rongo MP Paul Abuor over embezzlement of Ksh.122M CDF funds
Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Commission Commission (EACC) have arrested Rongo Member of Parliament Paul Odalo Mark over alleged embezzlement of National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) funds amounting to Ksh.122 million.
The MP is said to have awarded tenders to companies
associated with him worth the aforementioned amount between the 2017 and
2015 period.
EACC CEO Abdi Mohamud confirmed the arrest on Thursday
saying that MP Odalo is being probed for conflict of interest and theft of
public funds.
The commission says the lawmaker, in liaison with Christopher
Nelson Abuor and his personal assistant, has registered two proxy companies and
contracted them to construct classrooms and drill boreholes within
his constituency.
The first company Aztec Infrastructure Kenya Limited where
he is the sole director has so far received Ksh.122 million while the other company
Jebset Holdings Limited where he is not the director has received Ksh.19.6
million.
“The MP has through his Personal Assistant registered
another company by the name Jebset Holdings Limited. Through this company, the
Personal Assistant has been paid Ksh.19.6 million by Rongo Constituency NG-CDF.
The Personal Assistant is the sole Director and signatory to the Company Bank Account,”
EACC stated.
The MP has since recorded a statement at EACC offices in Nairobi.
Mohamud has urged State Officers to desist from abusing their positions to abet corruption, noting that the case is part of similar embezzlement under the CDF, National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), Women Enterprise Fund and other devolved funds.
