EACC arrests 2 KRA employees over Ksh.120K bribery charges

Detectives from the Ethics And Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested two Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) employees deployed as Customs Officers at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) over bribery charges.

According to the Commission, Mutava Lawrence and Timothy Momanyi allegedly demanded a Ksh.120,000 bribe as a condition for releasing goods they had confiscated from a traveler.

The traveler declined to pay the fee and instead contacted the Commission.

Upon conducting an investigation, the detectives nabbed the two suspects on Friday evening while attempting to receive the bribe.

Thereafter a search was conducted on the two employees' cars and Ksh.297,000, suspected to be proceeds of corruption, and a firearm was recovered.

The duo was taken into custody at the Industrial Area Police Station as they await further processing and subsequent arraignment in court.
