Drama as Kayole woman accuses hospital of stealing one of her twins after birth
A first time mother in Nairobi's Kayole area
is in agony following the mysterious disappearance of one of her twins soon
after birth.
Vane Nyaega, who delivered through Caesarean
Section, claims Kayole II Level 4 Hospital staff denied her request to see the
other twin baby, and allegedly swapped it with a dead foetus.
An array of unanswered questions and no
information coming from the health facility a week later deepens the mystery even
as Nyaega's family demands justice.
“Nikauliza huyu madam wapi mtoto akaniambia
nisuburi daktari anapangusa mtoto. Nikangoja hakuna motto,” she says.
When she could not wait any longer, she
involved members of her family who were given a different story altogether.
“Sasa nikapigia my aunt nikamwambia nimeibiwa
mtoto mmoja, vile alikuja akaambiwa eti mtoto amekufa na mimi mwenyewe hata
hawakuniambia,” narrates Nyaega.
Her sister added: “Daktari alikuja kumwekea
maji akauliza wapi mtoto akamjibu kwamba mwenye alikufanyia CS ndio ako na
mtoto, sasa saa ile bwana aliingilia kesi tukaambiwa alishapass akiwa kwa tumbo
two weeks ago.”
The family is now wondering why they would be
notified of their dead infant more than 24 hours after birth despite the
hospital claiming that one of the twins was still birthed.
Nyaega stated that her latest scans revealed
that her babies were fine in her womb.
“Nilienda scan na clinic date 30, hata hao
madaktari walisema niko sawa na watoto pia wako na afya nzuri,” she adds.
The family refused to receive the body given
to them in a carton box, saying it looked like a miscarried underdeveloped
foetus that does not match Nyaega's latest scans.
“Leo wamekataa tufanye DNA, mama mkubwa wa
hii hospitali akasema toa huyu mama hapa kwa sababu akitoka hakuna evidence...na
usiku walimtoa nje na mtoto wakisema aende huko Mama Lucy atolewe damu
tukakataa,” Nyaega’s sister added.
Area Police Commander Lucas Ongaya has since
called for calm as they delve deeper into the matter.
“Tumeanza uchunguzi, na vile uchunguzi
utatupeleka ndipo tutakapoenda,” he stated, even as the hospital administration
declined to issue a comment to the press.
