There was drama at an event in Kiambu County as Gatundu South Member of Parliament Gabriel Kagombe engaged in a physical altercation with a contingent of police officers.

In the incident captured in a now-viral video, the MP engaged in a bitter brawl with the officers after they allegedly switched off his microphone as he addressed residents.

Trouble reportedly started after the MP gate crashed a bursary-issuance event organised by Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi and went ahead to address the residents.

The Governor was yet to arrive at the forum, however, a group of police officers in uniform stormed the event while the lawmaker was addressing his constituents and switched off the microphone, thereafter ordering Kagombe to put to a stop his speech.

The seemingly enraged MP would later take on the officers head-on as he sought to find out why his mic was off.

“Hii ni madharau…Toka hapa, unaniambia kitu gani wewe? Umechaguliwa na nani hapa? Wewe toka hapa!” Kagombe said as the public took his side.

His supporters joined the confrontation and reprimanded the officer for what they said was disrespecting and violating the MP’s rights.

“Unazima aje microphone?  Afande hapana…hio hapana. Heshima idumu. Huwezi zima microphone…instructions of who? Afande kazi yenu imekua siasa?” Residents chimed into the drama.

At the same time, the officer could be seen attempting to explain that he was under instructions to shut down the PA system.

He pleaded: “Nimepewa instructions…niskize.”

The remarks by the officer did not sit well with the legislator who demanded to know who had issued the directive. “Umepewa na nani instructions…instructions gani? Mwenye amekupea instructions akuje! Ebu ondoka hapa! Toka! Unanambia nini?" Kagombe ordered as he pushed the officer.

Other officers who tried to intervene could be heard urging Kagombe not to get physical with their superior: “Usipige mkubwa wetu…don’t touch our boss!”

Sources privy to Citizen Digital have since revealed that the MP is blaming Governor Kimani Wamatangi for his woes accusing him of deploying the police to sabotage his meeting.

He has also called on the county boss to respect other elected local leaders including the MPs and the MCAs.

The incident comes against the backdrop of the county MCAs having threatened to impeach Governor Wamatangi accusing him of dictatorship, poor leadership, and an inability to oversee the county's development.

On Tuesday, an exercise organized by the governor to issue bursaries in Ruiru turned chaotic after a group of rowdy youth, whom the governor later claimed had been ferried by some MCAs,  disrupted the meeting.
