Drama was on Tuesday witnessed at the close of the National Drama Festivals at Kangaru Girls’ High School after Embu MCAs were ejected from the venue by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s security personnel.

The leaders who admitted to have received invitation letters for the event arrived only to find that there were no seats reserved for them, and there was no mention of their presence in the program.

Ruguru-Ngandori MCA Muturi Mwombo was subjected to public embarrassment after being roughed up physically and later hounded out of the venue despite identifying himself.

In another incident, Nominated MCA Augustine Njeru, who is physically challenged, was also quickly whisked out of the venue by police officers who claimed his crutches were dangerous weapons.

Other MCAs were forced to take to their heels with armed security officers in hot pursuit, causing a temporary commotion as onlooking members of the public wondered what was happening.

All senior county government officials had seats reserved at the VIP section while seats for politicians were only meant for local Members of National Assembly, Senator and Woman Representative.

The MCAs claim that despite their efforts to beseech the security personnel to allow them admittance, their pleas fell on deaf ears; they added that and on insisting that they were political leaders, the officers turned violent.

The Ward Reps are now furious at Governor Cecily Mbarire’s administration for the breach of protocol that left most of them stranded while the few who managed to access the venue sat on grass.

On Facebook, Kiambere MCA Lenny Masters bitterly reacted to a post by Agriculture County Executive Committee Member (CECM) at the event by saying: “Asanteni sana, wacha MCAs wakae nyumbani!”

The MCAs who had skipped the morning County Assembly plenary session to attend the Deputy President’s function expressed fury over mistreatment and lack of recognition as local leaders.

The politicians have now vowed to snub any State function within the county unless proper protocol arrangements age made to guarantee that they would not be subjected to physical abuse and ridicule.

Efforts to establish why the MCAs were ejected from the event or whether they were indeed physically assaulted have been unsuccessful as DP Gachagua’s handlers did not respond to queries.
