Drama as activist Kasmuel McOure chased by anti-femicide protesters in Nairobi
Singer-turned-political activist Kasmuel
McOure was on Tuesday chased away by protesters participating in the
anti-femicide demonstrations at the Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).
The drama
started after the outspoken activist attempted to join demonstrators in the city’s
streets.
Contrary
to his momentous entries during the Gen Z demos where he had gained prominence across
media platforms, a section of irate youths booed and shouted at him to go away.
The firebrand
youth leader, who a few months ago was perceived a public darling, found
himself seeking cover after the cold reception from the mob.
Videos
shared across social platforms captured McOure being
whisked away with shouts of “Rudi home! Enda!” as demonstrators were
displeased with his presence.
The same criticism was extended by netizens
with a majority of Kenyans on X calling him out for what they termed as being
the “people’s sellout.”
Hours
after the demonstrations and online slaughter, McOure took to his official X
account to address the incident insisting that regardless of the CBD attack, he
remained true to his course by participating in the march, dubbed
‘EndFemicideKE’ and would not be cowed.
“I
marched today, got booed, but still showed up. I always will. #EndFemicideKE,”
he stated.
“I left
because some protesters felt my presence wasn’t appropriate. I didn’t see the
need to centre myself in today’s march after such clear feedback. This is a
cause I’ve always supported and stood up for, even when it drew harsh criticism
back in March. Regardless, I’ll continue to stand for what I believe in.”
The
attack on McOure followed a similar reaction by netizens in October where he was accused of “dining with
the government” while pretending to be fighting the same government.
McOure came under fire for failing to address
the Morara Kebaso attack at Bomas of Kenya, after being given a chance to
address the crowd.
Not long after Morara was violently booted out of the Bomas of Kenya hall, where he had endured a vicious attack from an angry mob, Kasmuel took to the microphone to offer his views on the Gachagua impeachment.
