According to the DPP, the suspects are accused of engaging in terrorist acts on June 25, 2025, that destroyed government facilities including Kikuyu Probation Offices, Kikuyu Law Courts, Kikuyu Sub-County Offices and Kikuyu Chief’s Office.
Other properties include the Office of the Registrar of Persons, Kikuyu Sub-County Education Office, the Sub-County Accountant’s Office, Registrar of Lands Office, Dagoretti Police Post and the Kikuyu Deputy County Commissioner’s Office.
The suspects also face a separate charge of arson, with an alternative charge of malicious property damage.
The suspects including Kawanjiru and Thiga, party officials of Rigathi Gachagua's Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), were presented at the Kahawa Law Courts and served with the charge sheets.
Appearing before Gideon Kiaga, the prosecution argued that the accused should proceed to take a plea.
An application was, however, filed by the defence team, seeking to bar the ODPP from charging them with terrorist charges.
The prosecution reiterated that there is no malice in prosecuting the suspects and that the charges were targeted at individuals who allegedly engaged in acts of terrorism and destruction.
The judge directed that the suspects remain in custody until July 10, 2025, to deliver a ruling on the defence team's application.
