DP Kindiki urges Kenyans to be patient with gov’t, says country on the right path

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in Lodwar, Turkana County, on Sunday, December 15.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged Kenyans to be patient with the Kenya Kwanza administration, stating that President William Ruto inherited an economy beset by both domestic and international challenges.

Speaking at a church service in Lodwar, Turkana County, the DP acknowledged citizens' economic struggles while emphasising the government's efforts to stabilise key sectors and improve livelihoods.

He was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul Moe (East African Community and Regional Development), Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, Deputy Governor John Erus, several MPs, and local leaders.

“When President Ruto took office, the shilling was at its weakest, trading at Ksh.170 to the dollar. Today, it stands at Ksh.129,” Kindiki said, emphasizing the administration’s progress in stabilizing the currency.

He attributed the drop in petroleum prices to Kenya Kwanza's deliberate interventions.

“The high cost of fuel, which had been driving up transportation and production costs, has significantly reduced, and further reductions were announced just yesterday,” he noted.

The Deputy President also highlighted reductions in the cost of essential commodities and loan interest rates, urging Kenyans to remain optimistic as conditions improve.

“Let us not lose hope. The same God who has guided us in stabilizing economic indicators will see us through the remaining journey,” Kindiki said.

He said that the government's top priority in the final three years of its first term will be to raise household incomes and create more jobs for Kenyans.

“Inflation, food prices, and fuel costs have stabilized. Now we are focused on implementing projects and policies to put more money in citizens’ pockets,” he added.

Kindiki outlined several government initiatives aimed at job creation, such as hiring 20,000 youth to clean the Nairobi River, expanding the Climate Works Programme nationwide, and hiring 76,000 teachers—the highest number ever recruited by any administration.

“We’ve created thousands of local and international opportunities for youth, ensuring equitable access for all regions,” he said.

In terms of security, the Deputy President praised the government's success in restoring peace in Turkana and the larger North Rift region through Operation Maliza Uhalifu.

“The security situation in Turkana and neighboring counties has significantly improved. Our multi-agency security teams have dismantled criminal networks of livestock rustling and banditry, paving the way for economic transformation,” he stated.

Kindiki praised political, religious, and community leaders for their efforts in fostering peace, calling for sustained collaboration to maintain stability.

“Security and stability in the North Rift and other regions remain a top priority. We’ve implemented multistakeholder peace-building programs to prevent bandits and other criminals from regrouping,” he said.
