DP Kindiki vows equitable development for all in meeting with Taita Taveta leaders

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Thursday assured that no part of Kenya will be discriminated against because of how their people voted in the last elections.
Further, the Deputy President pledged that critical economic and development priorities captured in respective county economic charters will be implemented as promised.
"Our leaders have agreed to work together under a broad-based government. We have agreed that political competition is over and there is now a government in place serving all Kenyans. This is a government serving everyone equally despite their previous voting choices," said Prof. Kindiki.
The DP spoke on Thursday when he hosted leaders and grassroots opinion shapers from Taita Taveta County at the Official Residence in Karen, Nairobi.
"This is a broad-based government. We are now one team. Team Kenya. We all support the broad-based agenda because our leaders have shown us it is possible to work together as one," he added.
The economic charters are a guide to what each of the 47 counties, Taita Taveta County included, wants the government to give priority as agreed between them and the Kenya Kwanza Administration during the campaigns.
The Deputy President on Thursday said the charters are being implemented in earnest, adding the fiscal challenges inherited from the previous regime have been addressed and now the government is better placed to roll out development projects across the country.
"The President has been working hard the last two years to stabilise the nation’s economy. We found serious economic challenges when we took over but the President prioritised correcting the macro-economic issues we inherited."
"Former President Mwai Kibaki took five years to sort out economic issues when he took over from the Moi administration, former President Uhuru also took five years to do the same after Kibaki but it has taken President Ruto only two years to stabilise the economy. Now, it's time to roll out development after sorting out the fiscal challenges," indicated the DP.
Thursday meeting was to delve into the key issues of concern to the people of Taita Taveta County. It followed a similar meeting with Embu County leaders last week. More meetings for other counties are in the pipeline.
"It is not a political meeting. This is about taking Taita Taveta forward. Issues on sharing of revenue from Tsavo national park, human-wildlife conflict, land issues and sharing of income from local mineral resources. All these issues are captured in the Kenya Kwanza manifesto, which we are fully implementing," noted Prof. Kindiki.
Noting that the broad-based government has eased delivery of service to Kenyans, the Deputy President said the economy is responding well to macro-economic interventions being implemented by the Ruto Administration.
"We now enjoy a better macro-economic outlook. The focus is stimulating the critical value chain: Agriculture, Livestock, Fishing and Blue Economy to ensure better earnings for the majority of Kenyans depending on these sectors," he said.
The revitalization of these key sectors is set to create jobs and improve the lives of the majority of Kenyans, added the DP.
In attendance were over 500 representatives from the four constituencies: Mwatate, Wundanyi, Voi and Taveta.
"We are grateful for this opportunity to present our development priorities so they can be addressed by respective agencies and authorities," said Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime.
Top of the issues that will be addressed is expansion of electricity connection to reach more homes in the county, equal sharing of revenue from the Tsavo National Park, completion of road projects, land adjudication and faster processing of title deeds, water and drainage expansion, equitable state jobs distribution, improvement of health and education facilities among others.
"We are ready to work with the government. We had been told before we were not qualified to benefit because we did not have shares in this government. That is now in the past. We are happy to work closely with President Ruto’s government," said Taveta MP John Bwire.
