Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his spouse Pastor Dorcas, took a long dawn walk from their rural home in Iruri Village - at the foot of Mount Kenya - Mathira constituency in Nyeri County, to a distant Iganjo village to check on his only surviving aunt Gladys Gathoni.

They had a good chat as they enjoyed breakfast of boiled maize and a cup of porridge as they reminisced about similar treks the Deputy President made years back.

“As I walked to her home, which is 8 kilometers away with my wife Pastor Dorcas, it brought back memories of similar journeys I made to her home in the seventies to get yellow passion fruits,” said the DP.

“Seeing her makes me remember my late mother, who looked exactly like her and talked like her. Parents are a blessing, and we must always take care of them, especially at old age.

On their way back, DP Gachagua, who was not with his security detail, interacted freely with neighbours.

They urged him and President William Ruto not to give room to any political handshake with the opposition keen to derail the Kenya Kwanza government.

“We exchanged greetings and shared lots of laughter. Our people remain hard-working, aggressive, and focused,” added DP Gachagua.
