Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has
cautioned drug and alcohol dealers that they have nowhere to run and reaffirmed
that the war on illegal substances will not be abandoned.
The DP made his remarks following a visit
to the Juja police station commander John Misoi at the Avenue Hospital in
Thika, Kiambu County on Tuesday.
Misoi was hospitalized following an Easter
Sunday raid during which brewers of Chang'aa shot him with an arrow.
Alongside Juja MP George Koimburi and
Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang'wah, Gachagua spoke during the arraignment and
10-day remand of a single suspect in connection with the attack.
In the crackdown, he also gave security
officers confidence that the government was behind them and would protect them
in the fight against bad liquor and drugs.
According to the DP, the Presidential Task
Force on police reforms is in the process of working on the issue, and as of
July of this year, the officers will have improved terms of service.
After a police operation on March 31 that
targeted illicit brews and drugs in Gachororo village in the Juja sub-county
turned violent, the OCS is currently receiving treatment at Avenue Hospital for
arrow wounds to the knee.
A projectile got stuck in the officer's
knee, causing damage to his right leg. Dr. Linnet Karanja, the hospital
manager, stated that the officer's condition was stable and that he was not in
danger.
In the context of the attack on the OCS on
Sunday night, Peter Karanja was held for several days in the Thika court to
allow the police to finish their investigation.
When the suspect first appeared before Thika Chief Magistrate Philip Mutua, the investigating officer, David Gacheru, and the prosecution requested to detain the suspect for ten days to wrap up their investigation.
