DP Gachagua, Uhuru invited to Maina Njenga's 'thanksgiving' event
Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga has underscored that there is no animosity between himself and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking on Citizen TV's JKLive Show on Wednesday, Njenga dismissed reports intimating that he does not see eye-to-eye with President William Ruto's second-in-command whom he seemingly acknowledged as a 'son of Mau Mau' just like himself.
"I have no problem with the DP. The DP says he is a son of Mau Mau and I'm also a son of Mau Mau so we need all the sons of Mau Mau to come and meet," he said.
To reinforce his stance, Njenga announced plans to convene a meeting of Mt. Kenya leaders at Nyeri County's Kaviruini Grounds on December 31 in order to express gratitude to God for the region's blessings.
Njenga says that invitations for the same have been extended to Gachagua and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"I have been talking to the council of elders, the kiama and all the other leaders and we will write to governors, senators, MPs and MCAs from all the Mt. Kenya regions. The purpose is to thank God for how far he has brought us," he said.
"The reason for choosing Nyeri is because it is somehow in the centre of our mountain and everything Mt. Kenya related. Nyeri is also home to many heroes like Dedan Kimathi, Mwai Kibaki and Wangari Maathai among others."
When asked by show host Jeff Koinange whether he would invite President Ruto to the event, Njenga noted that the head-of-state might feel out of place at the function owing to his ethnicity.
"Hafai kukuja hapo. Anakuja kufanya nini? Yeye anaitamkutano wake kule Rift Valley. Mkutano wa Kalenjin ukiitwa si ni yeye ataenda huko. Hii yetu ni mkutano in-house; ni Mkutano ya wakikuyu, waembu na wameru," he said.
