DP Gachagua now claims Mt. Kenya leaders being used to divide the region
Deputy
President Rigathi Gachagua now claims that there is a plot to divide the Mt. Kenya
unity using leaders from the region.
Speaking on
Friday during a thanksgiving ceremony at Mutonyora Comprehensive School in
Njabini, Nyandarua County, the DP warned residents of the mountain that they
risk being shortchanged if they do not unite.
Gachagua,
claiming he could see darkness in the near future, urged the locals to sound the
alarm when they see traitors.
“I am not too clever, and neither am I a fool, there is something I know
and when I look keenly, wake up early and look, I see darkness, I see someone
plotting against us, and our children being used to divide us,” said the Deputy
President, who spoke in his native Kikuyu language.
Gachagua
likened the politicians who he accused of being used to sow disunity to
children, further asking parents from the region to engage them, saying
divisions in the Mt. Kenya communities would bring problems that he did not
detail.
“Parents, these are our children, talk to
them. Tell them to be wary because the enemy of the Kikuyu, is a Kikuyu. Let us
be careful, love one another,” he stated.
The DP, who
has been in the eye of a political storm in recent times, told locals that no
Mt. Kenya leader should turn against the other and called for a unity of purpose
in the region.
“Everywhere else, you do not find people being incited to fight one
another, it is only in this region. We should not be fools, let us wisen up,
let us open our eyes and see the future,” he said.
The Deputy
President also asked Mt. Kenya residents to support President William Ruto.
Leaders
allied to him fanned the flames of discord in the ruling United Democratic Alliance
(UDA) party as they took on Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja who on Thursday
accused the DP of bullying other leaders.
Nyandarua
Senator John Methu said: “Governor wa
Nairobi hana any impetus ya kujibizana na mheshimiwa Rigathi Gachagua, na nilimwambia
jana tukiwa pale Bunge.”
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei stated: “Ukikosea heshima naibu wa rais,
umekosea rais William Ruto heshima kwa sababu hawa ni chanda na pete na hawa ni
Presidency, you cannot separate them.”
DP
Gachagua’s revamped Mt. Kenya unity talks come amidst opposition by a section
of leaders in the ruling party, among them Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, who has seemingly
ruffle feathers in the region.
