DP Gachagua asks Mama Ngina to surrender Kenyatta land to freedom fighters

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reacted to a meeting between Mama Ngina Kenyatta and Field Marshal Muthoni wa Kirima on Thursday.

Muthoni visited the former First Lady after she cleared her pending bank loan amounting to Ksh.4.7 million, and bought her a home in Nyeri last year.

During the meeting, Mama Ngina called on Kenyans to maintain peace and unite in developing the country.

DP Gachagua, who spoke in Nyeri County on Friday, now wants Mama Ngina to surrender half of the Kenyatta land estate to the Mau Mau and their children.

He said he was happy to see Mama Ngina showing intent to help the Mau Mau fighters, but asked that if the former first family was sincere, then let them surrender half of the larger Kenyatta land estate to the Mau Mau families.

“I was so happy yesterday to see people saying that they are thinking of how to help the Mau Mau. Even if they have never helped them since 1963 it's still not late because the Mau Mau and their descendants are suffering,” said the DP.

“All we’re asking is for them to help the Mau Mau in a meaningful way. All the land they took from the Mau Mau, let them return at least half of the parcels of land to the Mau Mau and their children including myself.”

The Deputy President claimed that a huge chunk of the vast Kenyatta land remains idle, while those he claims fought for freedom remain landless.

“Of course from 1963 they have never bothered. Now that they have come and said they are concerned about the Mau Mau, let them help us because they are the ones who took away the land belonging to the Mau Mau,” he alleged.

“Antelopes are feeding and roaming on those parcels of land, nothing is going on in those pieces of land yet the Mau Mau are being buried on public cemeteries.”

DP Gachagua added that he is ready to mobilise the Mau Mau families to receive the land from the former first family.

“So we are asking them, if God has indeed touched their hearts to have mercy on the Mau Mau, let them consider giving back even half of that land they took from the Mau Mau because that land is too much, they don't even need the land, let them call us,” he said.

“If they want my services I can organise the Mau Mau we talk about that issue, they give us half of that land, we give them titles and they can keep the rest. Any help for the Mau Mau is welcome. Even after waiting for 60 years we are still waiting.”
