Doctors begin push for salary increase over high cost of living
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists
and Dentists Union (KMPDU) is now demanding increased salaries for its members over the
high cost of living.
KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah
said the decision to initiate the move was arrived at following a kamukunji
with doctors in Bomet on July 27, 2023.
The kamukunji, according to Dr. Atellah, centered
around issues affecting healthcare professionals, as well as the insistence on
standing united as a union.
“During our discussions, one crucial matter
took centre stage – the pressing need for a salary increase,” stated the KMPDU
boss in a statement to newsrooms.
“As the cost of living continues to rise,
it's imperative that we advocate for fair compensation for our hardworking
healthcare professionals. We stand united in pursuing better wages and improved
living standards for all our members.”
Dr. Atellah further added that the union will
continue to hold similar sessions with healthcare workers across the country,
in a bid to advance their rights and welfare.
