Disturbing video of Kenyan men appearing to openly promote femicide sparks outrage online

In the undated video shared by popular activist Boniface Mwangi, two men, who claim to represent the street political group 'Bunge la Wananchi', approach a group of protesters with the aim of airing out their views and making their stance known on the femicide epidemic.

While mincing no words, one of the men, dressed in a black cardigan, a blue checked shirt and black pants, kicks off the diatribe, arguing that 'men have suffered' and, therefore, women must also face the consequences of their perceived actions.

"This is Bunge la Mwananchi bana. Let me tell you... Men have suffered because of these women. Imetuguza ata sisi, we have daughters..."

Before he gets time to enunciate his opinions, one of his colleagues joins him and appears to go straight for the jugular - recklessly affirming that Kenyan men will resoundingly continue butchering women.

"We are going to kill you!" he states, matter-of-factly.

"We are going to kill you, we are going to kill you. I cannot take you to Pizza, you eat my money. You women are going to die. Ati unataka pesa ya mwanaume? Come on! Mtakufa sana... Na bado!" his mate, who was speaking earlier, agrees.

Even as some of the protesters attempt to calmly reason with the men, they appear relentless, unflinchingly doubling down on their opinions, their apparent disdain for women reeking publicly.

"We are going to slash!" one of the gruffier-looking men says, gesticulating.

Whilst the men bicker, a group of young women can be seen holding up placards just a few meters away. One placard reads: "I can't believe I still have to protest this sh*t. #EndFemicide!".

Immediately after the video started going viral online, outraged Kenyans expressed their dismay at the utterances, with many calling on the authorities to apprehend the men.

"You know what the saddest part is? A lot of men out here reason like this. This is exactly why men that are losers are a huge red flag cause why in the world would you kill a woman over pizza? Kitu ya 1300?" X user Charlton Kitheka said.

"The most terrifying thing about this is these probably don't even spend a shilling on a woman but have deeply bought into the Kenyan incel idea that women are after their money. That deserves death. This is so scary oh my God!" another user commented.

Early saturday morning, thousands of men and women flooded the streets of Nairobi to call for the end to femicide, after an alarmingly high number of women ended up brutally murdered by men known to them since the beginning of the year.

On January 26, renowned actress Kate Kamau, popularly known as Kate Actress, participated in an End Femicide march in Nyeri.

Speaking at the protest, Kamau said she had felt it was her responsibility as a woman, a mother and as a public figure whose majority of followers are women.

"The reason why we started this march, I feel as a woman and entertainer as someone who holds a position in society I have a responsibility to protect women. The majority of my following are women. The people who have supported me through and through are women," she said. 

“I am a mother, I am a woman and I have a right to life. My sisters have a right to life."

The Nyeri march was just one of the planned marches set to take place around the country under the call to action campaign dubbed #TotalShutdownKE in protest of the multiple cases of femicide reported over the past month.
