Dinda, Hanti set for UON’s inaugural climate adaptation programme
Among the programs launched was the Youth Academy on Adaptation and Leadership, a joint effort between the University of Nairobi, GCA, and the University of Groningen. This academy provides practical training on climate adaptation, aiming to empower participants to scale up and educate others on adaptation strategies.
A significant highlight of the event was the unveiling of two doctoral candidates who will partake in the inaugural dual doctoral programme between UoN and the University of Groningen.
Gabriel Dinda, CEO of Writers Guild Kenya and Lecturer at Strathmore University, along with Hussein Hanti, a civil servant with the County Government of Tana River, were selected for this prestigious opportunity. Both candidates are currently pursuing their PhD studies at UoN's Institute for Climate Change and Adaptation and will complete a portion of their studies at the University of Groningen.
These programs represent part of a broader effort by the Chancellor to foster partnerships between UoN and institutions in the Global North. Such initiatives align with Prof. Verkooijen's vision for UoN, encapsulated in his Big 5 Agenda.
The awards were presented at the Chandaria Centre for Performing Arts at the University of Nairobi during an event held on September 18, 2024.
"We are proud to launch this Double Doctoral Program. It provides a great opportunity for multidisciplinary research and collaboration. GCA is proud to sponsor it," remarked Prof. Patrick.
The event was attended by UoN students, participants in the Youth Academy, faculty from the University of Nairobi and the University of Groningen, as well as various partners and stakeholders of UoN.
