Slain JKUAT student Denzel Omondi

Denzel Omondi, a third-year student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has been laid to rest amidst calls for justice for the family and an end to extrajudicial killings.

Denzel mysteriously died and his body was found in a quarry in Juja after engaging in an anti-finance Bill protests at parliament buildings.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and his Karachuonyo counterpart Okuome Adipo were among the mourners at the funeral.

They called on the government to provide answers to families that lost their loved ones in protests.

He accused the government of failing to put to an end mysterious deaths reported in the country, giving reference to the recent discovery of bodies in Kware area, Nairobi.

According to the MP, Kenya has witnessed numerous cases of mysterious deaths, and protests are as a result of President William Ruto failing to fulfil some of his campaign pledges.

During his speech, he opposed plans for a national dialogue saying the president continues to make mistakes including nominating cabinet secretaries who previously served in the same government.

He also opposed any attempts to hike university fees, saying a lot of families will not be able to educate their children if tertiary education is made expensive.

Karachuonyo MP announced that a classroom will be built at Adhiro Primary School and named after the slain university student.

JKUAT Vice Chancellor Prof Victoria Ngumi described Denzel as a bright and dedicated student in his department.
