The family of the late Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi is
optimistic that the body of the independence war veteran will be surrendered to
them before the matriach time comes.
Speaking during the 66th anniversary since the freedom fighter was shot by the British, the family says this would bring comfort to his widow Mukami Kimathi, who has for so long fought to bury her husband.
The family expressed optimism that the body of the late war hero, will be surrendered to them for a proper burial.
Tales of neglect war veterans came out strongly, as they seek the government's intervention to enjoy what they fought for.
60 years ago, Mau Mau veterans assembled at Nyeri's Ruring'u stadium for a disarmament exercise, after Kenya gained her independence.
Over the years, the stadium has borne great significance for those that survived the struggle. On Satrurday, they gathered at the stadium to commemorate 66 years since the shooting of maumau general , Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi.
The body of Kimathi is believed to have been buried in a mass grave located at the Kamiti Maximum Prison.
