DCI: Forensic evidence links suspect to murder of Wells Fargo manager
Detectives from the
Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are interrogating the suspect linked
to the brutal murder of Willis Ayieko, a human resource manager at Wells Fargo
Company.
Victor
Ouma Okoth, was flushed out of his hideout in Nairobi’s Dandora Phase Four on
Monday night, after fleeing the crime scene in Nyamninia, Siaya County.
Reports indicate that
Okoth, a Siaya native, withdrew over Ksh.100,000 using the deceased's
mobile phone in the Dandora area on Friday, which he used to secure a rental
house that served as his hideout before his arrest.
"He came here
around ten with some things... we didn't know he was a murderer," Kevin Omondi, a Dandora resident,
told Citizen TV.
"The day he came,
everything was new. Yesterday is when we saw the government come and do its
work," Keffe Teche, another resident, added.
Detectives have since established a forensic link between Okoth and the crime scene. They are also pursuing potential accomplices, as autopsy results indicate that Ayieko died from blunt force trauma to the head.
"The body was decomposed to a great extent. We found injuries, bleeding, and bruises on the wrist," Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor said.
"Importantly, we were able to identify him positively," Pathologist Emily Odhiambo added.
In addition to determining the cause of death, the team of pathologists meticulously searched for vital details, such as DNA evidence left on the body of the deceased.
Investigators are relying on the DNA evidence gathered during the postmortem to firmly connect the suspect to Ayieko's brutal murder.
Meanwhile, Ayieko's grieving family, who were present during the postmortem examination at the Lee Funeral Home, has urged for swift investigations and prompt prosecution of those responsible for their son's death.
"I want to plead with our people to be patient because we are optimistic we are going to get to the bottom of it. We are traumatized; the family is traumatized," Alego Usonga MP, Samuel Atandi, who serves as the family's spokesperson, said.
"That was very tragic; I never imagined something like that would ever happen to someone like Willis," Siaya Governor James Orengo added.
Ayieko's body was discovered in a small stream in Nyamninia last Wednesday, three days after he went missing.
